CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Humidity increases this weekend and brings storm chances with it.

Today’s forecast brings us a simply fantasic Friday: a cool start to the morning with mostly sunny & warming conditions. Daytime highs reach the low to mid 80s by afternoon.

As we wait for the warmth and hudmitiy to return, we’ll start to see the first signs of that change with skies turning partly cloudy by the evening into the overnight… great for Friday Night Football!

Changes Coming this Weekend
As we’ve been telling you about all week, warmer and more humid air moves our way with occasional shower and storm chances through the weekend into next week.

Most indications are that this chance begins in the northwest on Saturday morning, with potentially wet weather shifting southeastward through the afternoon. It won’t be a totally wet day, but you’ll want to pay attention to the forecast if you’ve got plans on Saturday that take you outdoors.

Temperatures stay fairly steady on Saturday, likely being held back from their full potential by increased cloud cover. This is despite stronger southerly winds, which will stick with us throughout the weekend. These will be key to bringing in a warmer, more humid air mass by Sunday.

Dew points then will reach into the upper 60s to the 70s. This is into the sweltering category on the Muggy Meter, so be ready for a big change to how the air feels. It’ll come with a big boost in temperatures, too, with highs on Sunday getting into the upper 80s to low 90s. Heat index readings could push into the mid to upper 90s during the afternoon.
More Warmth, More Active
There will also be more chances of showers and storms on Sunday lasting into the middle of next week as temperatures remain well-above normal.

The exact timing of these rounds of activity will become clearer in the coming days, so stick with us for more updates as we get closer to this time frame. You can find them here on KCRG.com, KCRG-TV9, and the KCRG First Alert Weather app.
