Meta Spikes 7% as Wells Fargo Lifts Price Target to 6 Ahead of Connect; Alphabet Nudges Higher, Microsoft Holds Flat

Quick Read

  • Wells Fargo raised its META price target from $640 to $796, sending shares up 6% to $704 ahead of the Connect conference.

  • Alphabet climbed 2% with the sector while Microsoft held flat, confirming today’s surge is a Meta-specific story, not a broad AI repricing.

  • Meta’s Muse assistant must deliver concrete usage metrics at Connect to justify Wells Fargo’s raised target, with Q3 earnings following on October 28.

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) stock is leading mega-cap technology higher this morning after Wells Fargo lifted its price target on the company just ahead of the annual Connect developer conference. The move stands out against a firm but not roaring sector tape, with peer names climbing more modestly in the same direction.

A white rectangular sign features the Meta Platforms logo, a blue infinity loop. Below the logo, a black bar displays 'Meta' and '1 Hacker Way' in white sans-serif text. Lush green foliage and trees form the background, and a light brown, gravelly path with a concrete edge is in the foreground.

Shares are at $712.56, up 7% in Monday morning trading, several times the pace of the broader technology backdrop. That relative strength locates today’s driver inside Meta Platforms rather than in a broad lift, and it leaves the stock up 7% year to date.

The Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSEARCA:XLK) is at $192.63, up 1.72%. Separately, the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:QQQ) is at $734.21, up 1.88%, so the sector wind is helping but isn’t doing the heavy lifting for Meta Platforms today.

Wells Fargo Lifts META Target to $796

The catalyst is an analyst call rather than a reported result. Wells Fargo raised its price target on Meta Platforms to $796 from $640 and kept an Overweight rating, tied to the firm’s read on recent model launches and early traction for the company’s Muse assistant. That reset in Wells Fargo’s view frames how the market is treating Meta Platforms into the event later this week.

The current Meta Platforms share price is $704, while Wells Fargo’s new target sits at $796. The firm has told clients to expect investor focus at Connect to center on Muse usage metrics and on the company’s latest models, which puts the burden on Meta Platforms to deliver specifics that back the raised call.
