Browns Named Landing Spot For Mac Jones Ahead of NFL Season

The Cleveland Browns come into the new NFL season still having questions about the long-term answer at the quarterback position. Cleveland has named veteran Deshaun Watson as the starter to open the year, but this move has been met with all sorts of backlash from the fans.

New Browns head coach Todd Monken has pushed back on this, hoping that the fanbase will back Watson. But many pundits believe that at some point, Monken is going to have to bench Watson, giving backup Shedeur Sanders a chance.

Sanders showed some flashes of belonging in the NFL as a starter last season, but Watson beat him out in camp. However, the Browns will likely give Sanders a shot to play before making any other changes.

Cleveland also has two other quarterbacks on the roster, Dillion Gabriel and Taylen Green. The Browns seem to want multiple options to use as the year goes on, if the season calls for it.

But none of the guys on the roster seem to be the franchise guy long-term. This has led to some speculation that the Browns could look to make a trade to bring someone else in.

One name that could be interesting is veteran Mac Jones of the San Francisco 49ers. Jones has been subject to trade rumors all offseason, but the 49ers have held onto him.

But just before the NFL season, Jones’ name is being circled around with the Browns. NFL analyst Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report mentioned the Browns as a landing spot if Jones gets moved.

Jones going to Cleveland could be interesting, and he would be one of the best options that the team has. Last season, while filling in for 49ers starter Brock Purdy, Jones played well, keeping San Francisco in the playoff hunt.

For the year, Jones threw for 2,151 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions, going 5-3 as a starter. Jones got a nice redemption story, and many people around the league believe he could be a starter again.

The Browns could be one of the more intriguing landing spots for Jones, and he would offer them a long-term solution. Of course, getting the 49ers to part with Jones could be tricky, but if the Browns came in with a strong offer, the former first-round pick could be heading to Cleveland.

If Watson and Sanders were to falter this year, Cleveland could turn to someone like Jones to help steady the position.
