LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A series of severe afternoon thunderstorms triggered a ground stop and widespread flight delays at Harry Reid International Airport on Thursday.

Federal aviation officials issued a ground stop for the airport from 1:13 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. as heavy storms rolled through the Las Vegas valley.

Additionally, a ground delay remains in effect until 8:59 p.m.

Travelers can expect average arrival and departure delays of 39 minutes, though departure delays are reportedly increasing.

Airport officials advise all passengers to check their individual flight status with their airline before heading to the airport.
