Superb response from CSU. A short pass from Hauss Hejny to Cedric Ross is turned into a 50-yard gain (the freshman is a star in the making).
A few plays later on 3rd and goal from the 7, Hejny finds RJ Vick in the back of the end zone for a TD.
It’s Vick’s fourth TD of the season. It’s 7-7 with 11:22 left in the first quarter.

LJ Martin long TD for BYU

Perfect start for BYU, awful for CSU.
Rams kick out of bounds on the opening kickoff and on the second play LJ Martin runs 56 yards for a touchdown. Not great tackling effort from CSU.
It’s a two-play, 65 yard drive in 49 seconds. BYU leads 7-0 super early. It’s a career-long run for Martin.

After the pregame weather delay, a new kickoff time of 6:15 p.m. Mountain has been announced for Colorado State and BYU.
The game will be broadcast on CBS.

At 4:45 p.m., gates re-opened at Canvas Stadium. Kick is originally scheduled for 5:38 p.m. No word yet on if there will be a new kickoff time.

No D’Mon Brinson again for CSU

The case of D’Mon Brinson and Colorado State is complicated. Brinson was granted an extra year very late, right before CSU played Wyoming. The defensive back (previously at UConn) had been helping on the coaching staff then switched to the player side.
He wasn’t able to play last week against Southern Utah as his case (which is one of a larger legal action involving many players) went back to court. He’s still on hold, with a hearing coming next week. It means he won’t play against BYU.

Colorado State football attendance records

It should be a big crowd at Canvas Stadium, so it’s worth a look at CSU’s home attendance records.
The top mark was set Week 1 in a rivalry win over Wyoming.

BYU defensive coordinator Kelly Poppinga wary of CSU’s Hauss Hejny

BYU defensive coordinator Kelly Poppinga was very complimentary of CSU’s offense this week, particularly quarterback Hauss Hejny.
“The quarterback is a problem,” Poppinga said. “He caught my attention quickly.”
Poppinga says CSU’s roster looks like a high-level opponent: “Talent is close to a Power 4 team … This team I think should be (Power 4).”

Colorado State injury notes

CSU offensive lineman Quinton Harris, a potential starter at tackle, returned to action last week for several series and he’s expected to be able to play vs BYU. It will be interesting to see if he slides into the starting lineup.
Jim Mora also said this week Jayden Tuia would return to practice. He’s another potential offensive line starter, but we’ll see in warmups if this week comes too soon for him to play.
Receiver Tommy Maher missed last week’s game and we’ll check in warmups if he’s ready to play.

Colorado State’s staggering offensive start

CSU scored 58 points last week and is just shy of 100 on the season.
Hauss Hejny’s nine TD passes matches CSU’s TD pass leader from 2025 (Jackson Brousseau with nine).
The 2-0 start is CSU’s first since 2011.

That’s what CSU receiver Terrence Smith Jr. said about the downfield blocking ability of the Rams. It’s become a central feature of the team.

BYU is ranked No. 11 (AP)/13 (coaches) and is the highest ranked opponent to play at CSU’s Canvas Stadium, which opened in 2017.
The highest ranked opponents CSU has ever played at home is No. 5, which happened twice at Hughes Stadium.
